I was so delighted today when I finally read these few verses by Faiz again … I dont know why I havent bought “Nushkha Hayay Wafa” as yet; though I was planning to for months if not years.
Coming to the special love I have for the particular nazm (few verses of which I’ve quoted here) they are strangely related to my childhood. My sis had a very old copy of Dast e Saba and me being a reader of everything (yes the stamps, coins, and Jam bottles wrap-ups too – even no brochure or flyer I can throw without reading) so I read Dast e saba by the time I was in 4th or 5th … I loved poetry back then tooo … this very nazm and there’s another one “Darbar e watan may jab ik din sab janay walay jayein gay” … with their tarana like sounds saara din may apnay bahan bhayon aur ama aba ka sar khatii thi singing it aloud ….!
It’s like return of memories … I was a kid then … I laughed many times saying the last few verses quoted here are for sure written by some darzi … (I didnt knew about faiz’s stature back then) … but now it digs in … when I read these … opening new doors to spots we are usually hesitant of going …!
*am waves off and opens Nushkha Hayay Wafa*
*Sheeshon ka Maseeha koi nahi …..!*
Ciao!

Link followed from sedha: Are you sure you had been to a tailor’s shop?
You thought of Faiz as just a darzi? I used to declare every poet as a sharabi if he included even a hint of jaam and mai. And come to think of it, I was right about Ghalib!
Salaam, and hi …
I am back off from my all hectic exams and some tough routines over to the leisure mood…hows you? hows the blogging fraternity? and hows ur blog….and is there any new big news for me regarding blog blockage…??
I agree that one tends to find the depth of a piece of poetry only when one can relate it to one’s own experiences or those of people around oneself.
I also used to read almost any book, magazine or newspaper I could lay my hands on. That, however, did not apply to my school or college text-books.
zios (:

This is really nice ghazal and singed by Jagjit Singh
Umar: I’ve never heard Jagjit Singh sing Faiz and I’ve heard practically all his stuff numerous times. Would be a pleasure to chance across this fantastic poem.
