From the dark cell of prison
Few months back I stumbled upon this inspiring letter in Dawn’s Books & Galleries section. And just yesterday I saw Sohail Fida’s interview; his perspectives, vision, ideas, hopes, and life; in Dawn TV’s program The Big Digit.
Oh man!!! with a life sentence ahead and in prison since age of 17. He’s an inspiration for all of us. We, who become hopeless at tiniest of things. He completed his education and thinking to improve ways sitting inside the darkness of death cell. We think of running and escaping from realities sitting in the brightness spread around.
After reading his simple letter in Dawn and watching the spirit of his in the interview last night; I’m trying to revise my definitions of pessimism and Optimism.
Read more about him here.

Oh woman!!!! That was so inspiring!
On a more serious note, I hope you’ll always remember this and use this as a reference point whenever you feel like complaining about anything in life.
From the world of fiction, I can recall parallels in the form of a movie called The Shawshank Redemption and a short story titled ‘God sees the truth but waits‘ .
Err ….. Who are you talking about ?
thanks for sharing.
what a tragic life the guy had, while reading his story, sometimes i thought it as fabricated. But as it is published by newspaper like Dawn, i am sure it is credible.
Hats of to Sohail..
Your blog is a pleasure to read , I am following you on Google reader since long…
Keep Blogging…
I’m trying to revise my definitions of pessimism and Optimism. <<— Why do we need to define everything in our lives?
Asma, thanks for sharing such a great piece. As the saying of Hazrat Ali goes, “Mein ney Allah ko apnay iraadon ki shikast sey pehchana”. So often, we forget that what ever we are planning may never materialize and there is a super being who is writing the scripts which are best for us in the long run.
Wow. A nice read. If only more people cared. Thats the whole point of it all. Nobody is moved by anything anymore. We can cry over movies but we cant cry over our own realities anymore.
Anybody know why is that?
Sidhusaaheb Shawshank redemption was a planning in another dimension … this one in another
Still, the courage to believe in yourself and strength to move on always help.
Maryam He’s a prisoner convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment. I read about him in Dawn newspaper. A figure most of us dont know about.
Jasdeep Thanks for coming by and liking. My pleasure all in all
Noops its not fabricated … his interview I saw the other day was truly inspiring!!
Stinger Sometimes we do. Probably its in human psychy, if anything bad happens to us we think thats the extreme forgetting people around us who suffer through worst still dont even complain.
A revision becomes necessary for ur own good, ur own growth, No?
Aamir Exactly …! And Allah demands constant striving from our end too. It always pay off.
Safiullah Indifference? While watching movies we cry coz we start relating to the characters; their pain hurt us eventually. The involvement. But in life otherwise, you only get hurt when the reality strikes bitterly directly. Why’d it affect me if a third person I don’t even know died in a bad accident. I’ll offer my grievances and will move on, No?
Humans are complicated … all praises to Allah almighty who made us so complicated yet so simple
Well people,i had the privilege of spending two and half years with Sohail Fida in Central Prison Haripur, and belive me the death cell is about 12×12 grave and a person completes his education from that god-forsaken place with the daily mental tortures and spending 22 hours in that cell.its nothing short of a miracle
and there is another of his articles http://www.dawn.com/weekly/books/archive/070902/books9.htm
Thanks Amer.
That was the actual piece I read in paper and then his interview on Dawn TV.
May Allah be with him and all alike in their hardships to earn knowledge … ameen!
