Of Weddings and Liners
Posted by mE on Jul 20, 2008At times I write my post following the top to bottom approach. First the title and then the post occurs. So lets see if mighty Liners can get some place here or not
Since past few years I’ve grown this interest in attending weddings and mehndis. probably the major reason is I dont tend to get much time in applying all that make up, wearing heels and all that lush push-ness. The perfect liners and coats of mascara … and every time the same whinings that I’ve forgotten to walk straight in heels (as if I ever knew :P).
In summers the very low percentage of weddings in Islamabad tends to make me cry for one even more. This was the wedding of a colleague … so apart from mehndi I decided to go on wedding too. None of my other colleagues came though coz of their own reasons and here m dad was more than willing to kick me out. Yes cricket was on and he can see uninterrupted by moiself. Khair when I reached the hotel art around 10:20, the place was quite crowded with no baraat in sight. To my amazement, it was a mix gathering kind of arrangement on round tables. Ahh :/
Khair, I politely asked two ladies (separately) if the seat on their table is vacant. The NO came. Arghing inside … I didnt want to go at back of the hall coz it was largely male dominated so I eyed around yet again and found a table with two seats empty. This time I didnt ask and sat
Wasn’t reserved either :> I hate covering my head on shaadis :S ayween banda itna tiyar ho .. khair had no choice but to wrap it tightly around. Eying around … saw two kids (gal and boy) of approx 2-3 years old, doing funny and well kinda obscene things like hugging and doing some dance steps I’m sure they saw in some indian film, in front. Appeared very weird to me … the parents were not bothered though. As you bow so shall you reap. I remember we were never allowed as kids and immature age (:s) to watch anything similar on tv ever. We never watched; we never knew.
In few minutes time, on our table this guy came and sat with his sister and wife (probably). Even though he was sitting with HIS WIFE, he thought he has every right to stare people around. Highly irritated and annoyed I ignored … that wa sthe only thing I could do with very few vacant seats available :s I must say eastern men are fulfillingly enriched of this stalking trait in them. We’ll keep our wives and sisters along but love to stare every possible girl in eye range around. hello, get some life. And why can’t a woman have guts to say to her man to go and sit in men … when its just family around sounds OK but otherwise .. it’s kinda weird.
To add to the annoyance, a cute looking amyish kind of auntie came smiling all the way from front … I thought she’s giving smiles to someone at back. She stopped in front of me and actually squeezed (in affectionate manner :P) my cheeks. And smiled and went ahead. Ufff … I went red thinking aunty please Im grown up now. Yes, this is the suffering I’m enduring since childhood… now thanksfully its limited to family only. Extended family actually. Khair .. the first thought that came to my mind was prospective saas’ do such things too. I eyed around for some son of hers too but to no avail
Thankfully, the bride and groom ame after few minutes and along came the khana. Both were delicious
So with the khana ending I called up my dad, toook some quick snaps of bride and ran away … walked in my heels. Oh man I love wearing heels … you look so dignified … which is oh-so-difficult-otherwise.
And the other day on mehndi, bored off when I thought of taking some macros of my dupatta and all that … this gal sitting next to me eyed me as if I’ve just landed from Mars :/ People … these people. I gave a weird smile to her only
Here goes the lite … so adieu till we meet again ![]()

Handing over the gift/envelope and exploring the culinary options available are the important tasks for me…The number of photos taken (or not) depend upon my equation with the bride or groom or both, besides my state of mind on that particular day.

oh boy - i’m just sick of this male hating crew out here in the blogosphere.. every other girl blog i read has some story to share their male-bashing attitude for men. It’s never that the man was staring at you.. in shadis.. almost everyone stares at every one else… it’s just the one you notice more that makes you feel that person is staring at you… and please don’t ever generalize the subject by calling all eastern men like that.. i can show you some interesting western men that have much more dangerous traits when it comes to women and ‘respecting’ them. Just my two paisas!
Anyways, it’s nice to hear that the food and the couple were nice!

As you bow, so shall you reap? I’m pretty sure that’s ’sow’.
(I’m sorry, I only read stuff that’s written in bold :P)
P.S Now no hanky panky with text formatting!

I want to attend a shadi too!!
July 21st, 2008 at 9:21 am
Lol…Reminds me of how I pin my dupatta so I don’t have to sambhalofy it every now and then. And these mix gatherings are so irritating, ufff. Shaadi hay to you have to dress up nicely - but not for those annoying stares!
In the case of heels and dressing up nicely, I’m just like you
*shake hand*

Larke taarte hain to bura lagta hai lekin larkon ko khud taarna achha lagta hai, hain? Isn’t that hypocrisy?
And why do the girls dress up so much? Kis ko dikhana hota hai saara make up? Tell tell…
July 21st, 2008 at 1:49 pm
@ Sawj: You’re saying as if khud to bilkul tayyar ho ker nae jaatay.
July 21st, 2008 at 10:40 pm
@DM: Tayyar hota hoon lekin larkiyon ki tarah make up to nahin thopta! And the questions remains: sab tayyar kyoon hotay hain?

@ SAWJ: Oh right, i remember, you’ve got very nice “zulfein”
so you won’t look ‘that’ different :p
July 23rd, 2008 at 3:25 pm
@DM: But I do have a frenchie on my face, so I’ll look like an eunuch if I put on make up.
Why does everyone hate my Zulfein?
July 23rd, 2008 at 4:04 pm
@ SAWJ: If someone does not say they like your “zulfein” doesn’t mean that they hate them!
This shows you think so much like girls

haha…. i loved the part about the lady pinching your cheek and your thoughts afterwards lol…happens to me too lol
oh and i love how some guys always get annoyed at “male bashing” yet they can be heard bashing females for talking too much, for taking too long to get ready, for bad driving (which is not true), etc. etc. etc…i think their list is longer than ours…
July 28th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
LOL … my sis , huh =D
Guys would remain like this forever I guess … but then gals will remain so to
ahh the mutual consent =))
